Tools to Aid in Your Journey to Self-Discipline
For the most part, building discipline is simply about doing the damn things you need to do. Repeatedly. However, there are things out there that can simplify the process, or make it easier, or more fun. It’s still work. But consider one of these things to make it feel a tiny bit less tedious
The only way to really know if your actually becoming disciplined is to keep track of your daily habits and tasks as your developing and completing them. You can do this by hand in a journal or planner, which can feel very satisfying. You can do it through an app on your phone. Or you can go more high-tech and get a smart watch or electronic wall calendar.
Journals:
The Favorite!
I have gone through about 5 of these journals. I love filling them out, and crossing off tasks each day is super satisfying. The stickers make a cute addition. You get to plan your yearly, quarterly, monthly, weekly, and daily goals, and it has silky bookmarks to keep them separate.
The Basic
Plan out your hour to hour, and your daily tasks without all of the extra distractions.
The Habit Only
Can you do the thing 21 days in a row (Supposedly that’s how long it takes)
Gadgets:
The Favorite
This is My smartwatch. I wear it religiously It keeps me moving, helps me figureout how to move, and tells me how well I’m doing at all of the things I want to be doing well at, and how to improve. Also! It has my calendar, right there, easy access to exactly what I should be doing.
The Fancy
I don’t actually have one of these, but if I didn’t live alone, I absolutely would. Keep everybody’s to-do’s straight so there’s no mix up between who is supposed to do what, when.
The Simple
This use to be my watch. When google took over, they… simplified it. Which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Someone might get lost in the chaos of a Garmin, where as the Fitbit dashboard is simple and sleek.
Apps:
I just use the basic google calendar. It synchs well with my Garmin. It lets me plan out my days easily. I can repeat tasks weekly, biweekly, monthly, or pretty much anyway I want to make it quicker to fill out my day. The link is for the website, but there is an app too. It’s free, and it does everything so I don’t really see a need for any other app.
There are all kinds out there though, I get advertisements for them constantly. Some where you raise a virtual pet by creating habits, some that help you figure out which habits to create. Basically, if you can think of it, there’s an app for it.
